“Laoniang” is what I have always called my maternal grandmother.
Now eighty, she continues to structure her days through familiar routines, tending crops, caring for the house, resting, talking, and attending to the small tasks of everyday life.
Laoniang is an ongoing photographic portrait of these rhythms and of the intimacy formed through spending time together. Rather than treating ageing as the subject itself, the project focuses on the way she continues to shape her own life, and on the time we are still able to share.
